Take a lesson
Has everybody seen this? Because every one should. No matter what language you speak or how tall you are, or whether you eat dirt for dinner or breaded oven-baked jumbo shrimp, you need to see this:
I wouldn’t say I have any special love for Johnny D, certainly nothing like Lindsay Lo, but I do feel something for him…since part of Pirates was filmed in Jamaica. And he made that heart-warming movie when he was young, Benny and Joon, that no one has seen but everyone should. AND apparently he fell in love with his not-wife’s perfectly poised upper back before he’d even met her face. These examples serve to show that Johnny Depp has a character worth taking a lesson from. And this Birthday video does too.
He’s appreciative and generous in showing his appreciation. It’s hard to say what heartfelt appreciation in public looks like these days. The first place to look would be award shows where celebrities win awards for doing their job. First of all, you don’t get an award for doing your job. I know because my current job is watching TV and I don’t get an award, nor do I get paid. Secondly, they get rewarded just for showing up. They get these huge expensive gift baskets with dreamy products that the rest of us have never heard of. Including food and sweets that they surely are not allowed to eat, not to mention the other things that they can afford anyway. Finally, you know they are just praising themselves when they win an award. They’re just thanking themselves for really going out on a branch and repeating the same thing 40 times, “with feeling.” Or writing a song that makes every person with a single conscious brain cell want to tear their hair out, strand by strand, in the most painful way possible (Miley Cyrus with a sensory assault of a music video to match).
But Johnny D reminds us of authentic gratitude. Try it. Appreciate someone you love (or hate) today!
yours,
R
P.S. I want the whole archipelago of Puerto Rico to know that my birthday is on September 12 and I’m better at showing my gratitude than Johnny D.
